The Old Man..

Just went to send my mom's shoe to the clobber and sat there looking at him working. He looks like in his 60's, has a hearing impairment on his left ear and smth wrong with his right eye.

Sat there for about 20min seeing him mend her shoe. His hands were shivering slightly trying to cut the rubber to fit the sole of the heel. Pants were covered with glue, hands were black and also covered with glue. Sitting on his small stool with a little cushion on it. He had to bend forward for long periods of time just to mend shoes, at the end of the day going home with a back ache at the lumbar region probably.

What made me blog about him was he had been rather meticulous in what he was doing comparing to the other clobbers i have watched. The aunties who were claiming back their shoes were very nice to him. Seeing the way they thanked him made me feel he deserve it. Before i left i thanked him and he thanked me back. No doubt i helped him earn more money i don't feel he had needed to say that to me...

Its sad to see elderly ppl in this state although of cause there are others who are worse off. How many clobbers do you see around your estate and are young..? i believe none of the ppl in our generation had learnt how to mend their shoes although it does look easy. Wonder in the future if there will be anyone seen doing that at the void decks..

There is nothing to look down upon on such ppl and their jobs. Even those ppl cleaning our plate at hawker centres, food courts and fast food. This reminds me of an incident of a young man whom i saw at NUH during attachment but shall not elaborate any further. Shouldn't look down upon someone just because of their job.
